My sister and her husband are currently stationed in Mozambique with the Peace Corps.  It's been a rough year for them, but in spite of bucket baths and pit latrines and all the other daily (and weekly, and monthly) inconveniences of living in a small town in Africa, they've never lost the sparkling optimism that makes me feel like a curmudgeon by comparison.  My sister's boundless optimism shines through in her photographs, which I wanted to share with you.

Thirty to forty of Lisa's photos are going to be featured in a new book on the material art and culture of Mozambique called "Mozambique Mosaic" mozambiquemosaic.com/

It's an amazing opportunity for her (as well as for the neighborhood children, who will be amazed to have their portraits in a real book!).  The illustrator pulling together photos for the book is Jacqui Taylor, whose website is here: www.jacqui-taylor.com/

I am so proud of my sister and am staggered by her talent.

Incidentally, she is also a wonderful storyteller.  You can follow her blog here: lisajospencer.blogspot.com/

(Lisa, Dan,
Alex and I love you and miss you, and we wish you all the luck and love in the world until the next time we get to see you--and after that, too!

Hello, everyone!  A warm welcome to my new watchers.  I just popped on to wax pedantic for a few paragraphs, then leave you alone for several weeks (because I unfortunately don't get paid to paint).

I Googled my fan art today (sad, I know!) and was surprised to discover it has made it out into the Internet-at-Large, not just within the WoT and KKC fan communities but in some random places too (my personal favorite being a blog dedicated at least in part to astrology, since I am about as anti- the serious application of astrology as it is possible to be without actually going around setting horoscopes on fire).  Anyway, this inspired me to say a few words.

I am delighted to see my fan art being scattered across the Web, especially since people seem very good about crediting me and linking to my gallery (though how would I know if they weren't, really?).  However, I put a lot of love into my art and therefore appreciate being told when it gets reposted, used as computer wallpaper, turned into a tattoo, etc.

I will never NOT give you permission to repost fan art (well, not unless you write a neo-nazi bulletin--and yes, there's a story there).  I will not even throw a hissy fit if you use it without permission.  But if you do use it, it would mean the world to me if you would just drop me a line letting me know.  And if you repost it, send me a link!  That way, I can stalk your blog, etc. to see what people say about me when they think I'm not listening ;)

Pleas note that any of my illustrations that are NOT fan art (where "fan art" describes illustrations for which the original written work is still protected under copyright) are protected under copyright held either by myself or a publisher (as noted). "Fair use" is fair game, but it is especially important to me that you ask permission before using or reposting any art that falls into this category.
